Clean the cyls with ajax and hot water, Blow dry and oil with a lintless cloth or deer skin rag. Also do not oil the rings, only the cyl walls with moter oil and then assemble the rings dry in a wet cylender. I use the ball hones and they work well for me, Rimco and Berg use a hone machine, GRANTs rings are less expensive and are easy to break in, they like an agressive hone of about 320 grit. Art Thraen

The guys at EMS give my cylinders a pretty aggressive hone and even this last time, i put the motor together, put some cam brake in time on it, put it on the trailer and by the 3rd pass in phoenix, i was up to speed. I do my assembly just like Art Describes. light oil on the cylinders, and dry rings. bolt them in and do a burn out. hehheh Although the time before this rebuild, i had stock cimas in since 95. Never split the p&C durign check ups. Another theory is to brake the rings in using NON Detergent oil. I have heard that the detergents in the normal oil can cause glazing. But like i said, theory.
