The car Darren is refering to has the open loop CB EFI that Morten is asking about`

and it doesn't make very much power. Its been through several shops locally and no one can get it to run right. Its in a 67, and it can't pass the

incredibly generous smog numbers here. I was able to get my Weber IDFs to pass the numbers for my 75, and its numbers are 1/3 that of the

67. I was also able to make 48 IDAs beat the numbers for a 67. A properly designed EFI should be able to blow away carbs in any

emissions test. When the owner called CB, their answer was a total cop out, "Its not designed to pass smog" Well, anyone that knows

anything about tuning fuel systems, knows that efficient running is at low emissions. This CB system was blowing 6+% CO and 2000+ppm

HC. That rich setting "puts out the fire", killing power and throttle response. When we look at this particular car and its engine, we all agree

it would make WAY more power with a pair of 45 or 48 Dellortos.

As for your blanket statement that EFI makes more power than carbs, my car was built with EFI, and I assure you, it makes three times as

much power now (bigger engine) with carbs than with the EFI.

Yea you want F.I.. You can have a fk-89 in it and still pull from 3000 with no hesitation.....But

I wouldn't run the cb fuel injection computer it isn't tunable enough. I put my whole system together for aroun 1200.00 and I use a SDS

computer and cb throttlebodies. The rest I got at the junkyard. E-mail me if you want the low down on my setup.

Re: CB Performance EFI

I met a guy at the Litchfield Bug-In last summer with a CB Performance EFI/Turbo setup. It ran ok, but he said he was having trouble with

trying to tune it and get it to run right. It looks like CB just uses General Motors electronics and a couple of potentiometers for their setup to

make it "work".

Re: Bruce is right . The CB stuff is cute, but its just as bad as the " bolt on and run Holley stuff" Besides , 48 Dells run great for me.

I fact i`ve never had then do anything but run flawlessly on every motor i`ve put them on. Has someone changed the original jetting and or

vents? In my unexperienced but well read opinion ,I think the electromotive ,Haltec,or Simple digital systems are much better FI systems.

Simple digital systems or SDS does not need a lap top . It comes with a little key pad that you can mess with if you want while you are

driving. And its an inexpensive system. I have a Haltec that I have not used yet but I will go with the SDS when I buy a new system for my

next street project. Does anyone know the web address for SDS?

SDEFI system

They use a lot of Bosch components in their systems, and Berg carries a lot of Bosch parts as well as TWM throttle bodies. The SDEFI site

also has a good tech article on building your own fuel rails and adding injector bosses; it's primarily aimed at the water-cooled cars, but

there is a lot of good information there to give you some ideas!
