Basicly works the same as a magnetic pick up in a distributor.

With the crank trigger, there is much more resolution on the placement of the pick up. Look at a 6 inch diameter over a 1 inch diameter of a

distribuor. Move a distributor 1/16 of and inch and you change the timing 1 maybe 2 deg, move the pick up of a crank trigger that much and

you move it a ¼ of a degree. Its very accurate at keeping the timing the same and you can make very small changes to see what works best.

Advance you would get with a distributor, well they are at full advance at 3000 rpm or so. Your most likely above 4000 during racing. So you

don't need the advance curve.

If you have a problem starting it up, you just slap on an msd retard unit that can retard timing 20 degrees at start up and even put in some

retard in 4th gear if you want.

Will it help performance? Don't know. It still triggers the iginition the same as a distributor. I guess for the heads up racing where every little

bit counts it probably is worth it.

Im sure the electomotive stuff works great, but do they have all the gismos and dohickys to do all the other stuff like limit revs, retard timeing,

etc. I don't know my self.

I personally have not used it on any of my cars but know of a few who have. First it is WAY SPENDY!! Yes it is crank trigger and has

limiter. Program your curve and retard on top end. I would go with what Muff Mike was talking about with gutted 40 hp dizzy. The last price

I saw (a while ago) on the electromotive stuff started at 1500.00!! Talked to a guy who had it on his bug about 5 mos. ago and he loved it.

Independent coils for each cyl. Huge voltage. They had a .065 gap! But was it cost effective? I dont know. Advance curves arent really

important on a race only car I think because your mainly concerned with total advance. And maybe adding a top end retard like MSD or

bergs stinger. Saw a dyno reading for MSD's retard and it gave this particular car a 2-3% increase in hp at 7000. 4-5 hp on a 200 hp engine!

Hope I helped some. sorry for the book.

My new Electromotive "Tech II Engine managment system" arrived Monday the 7th. It has digital fuel injection, crank fire ignition, 2 soft rev

limiters, programmable fuel curve, programmable advance/retard curve, an output to turn on Nitrous or whatever at a programmed rpm.It also

does a bunch of other things that hopefully someday I will understand how to use.

The purchase of this system was the culmination of several years of research (asking lots of questions to lots of people) I've heard nothing

but good about the Electromotive systems, and in talking with them they seem very helpful (I will see how helpful in another week or so).

This system will hopefully be running in the spring on my 2332 turbo Manx.

They also produce a stand alone crank fire ignition that utilizes many of the same features of the Tech II system.

I hope this answered some questions. After the weekend I should know a bit more about the system. See Ya ...Jerry...
