Would you suggest a threaded or super-snap-ring Super Diff?

I'm in the process of building my Rhino/close 3rd and 4th swingaxle for my '67.

Engine is est 185hp 2276.

Thanks for your input.

I would never use a spool on the street. Ask anyone who has tried. A good double snapring super diff will do what you want just fine. (n/t) (Marty) (16-Jul-2000 14:37:11)

Hey Ratto... I have Versgroves threaded super diff and its been tested at high altitudes.... (n/t) (Damon) (16-Jul-2000 19:49:30)

put a spool in it and hold that bitch you guys no the saying (n/t) (versgrove) (16-Jul-2000 22:59:37)

SNAP ring super diff is the ticket. set it up with berg poor man posi and bugpack super rings. threaded collars rip out. why would anyone want a spool on the street??

its bad enough they take out so many drag cars when axles break or traction changes and you eat the wall.. every bug ive ever seen smokes both tires unless on is on

ice. my opinion fred stanski (n/t) (16-Jul-2000 23:39:52)

Re: No matter what you do with a open diff, one wheel will always spin out of control!!! (n/t) (John Jr.) (17-Jul-2000 01:39:53)

JOHN JUNIOR, what are you talking about??? IVE been drag racing vws for 18 years with an open diff and my car ALWAYS leaves 2 black marks on

the track... i also race buggies and when pulling hills both spin until the traction difference gets too far apart. i have the video tapes to prove this.. for 1

wheel to spin it has to DOUBLE its speed, think about it.. i stick to my view on the modified open diff as being the choice for street {and my drag car}

FRED, the threads failed for me. they just sheared off and let the side gear come out. ive seen a couple do this. i switched to snap ring with poormans posi and bugpack

SUPERRINGS [not double] in drag car and have ran many years with 0 diff failure.. 698/106 mph 1/8 mi. these were diffs from about 1988, mabe they are better

now... good luck dennis valley vw (n/t) (17-Jul-2000 18:33:12)

Great !! - I just put a racing superdiff in my high performace street car. How could the threaded collars ever come out?? Is the

double snap ring unit really so superior or is everyone just opining?

Did you drill out the threaded sleeeves and use the the steel pins? I talked with Jim at Der Transaxle and he didn't mention any

problems with them. Matter of fact, he has seen many poor mans posi systems fail.

Hey JR,

threaded diff sux, if you want to change axles or inspect the endgears, etc. you have to yank the diff, yuck, and i've seen the

threaded diff's beat the threads on the retainer nuts (get sloppy)..yuckyuck...take the snap rings and stone a sharp edge on one

side, point that out, i'd offten though about welding a little bridge across the snapring opening when installed (it aint going

anywhere) and cutting the bridge off to remove aint no biggie...i've never seen or heard of a double snapring diff blowing one

out anyway??
