To get into the 15's you will need more cam, more compression, more carb,Close ratio gears,& TRACTION (n/t) (James Lutz) (28-Aug-2000 21:43:59)

Re: Re: If you want STREETABLE (highway too!!) 15's out of a daily driver, I would suggest 1776, 8.0:1-8.5:1, Engle 120 with 1.25 rockers, nice heads (40 x 35.5 with work, the more port work for your application, the better), dual 44IDF or 45DRLA, merge 1-5/8 header and high flow muffler, 12lb f/w, KEP 1700 with solid disc, stock trans with good mounts and Berg traction bar. If you can drive, you'll be in the 15's easy, and be able to drive it to work. HAVE FUN! (n/t) (Jim Ratto) (29-Aug-2000 01:05:14)

Re: Re: Re: PS: I personally know of about 6-7 motors identical to this that cruised throught the 15's no problem. Just an FYI before you think you can't do it. YOU CAN!!! GO FOR IT!!! (n/t) (Jim Ratto (again!)) (29-Aug-2000 01:16:58)

Just high 15's? I don't think I can go for a close ratio gear box, because I need to drive on the highway. (n/t) (28-Aug-2000 22:16:08)

Ok, if runninga 15 is going to break me, how fast will this thing run? I'm just after Hondas, I'll get the 'stangs next time around. If I just add abigger cam, is it going to fall down on the bottom? (n/t) (28-Aug-2000 22:24:53)

I put a 120 in my 1904.. 74x90.5, 7:1 comp. 44's w/ 32 vent and I hated it. save your money buy heads, a little bigger cam, and comp.. youll like it, I think the 110 is a great cam for what you have now. (n/t) (dean n.) (29-Aug-2000 00:04:15)

It all depends on what you like in power. If you like low end torque for drivability, then the 110 is fine. Don't expect to win any races. Personally I like a little more cam for better top end power. So I have to down gear to pull hills. My 1600cc mouse motor has a VZ-30 cam ( 298d/.507L) on stock ported heads, 8.6:1cr. Very soggy down low, but make decent power at 3,000 and really comes on at 4,000-6,800. Turned 15.38 in the 1/4. 1.48,3rd and 1.0,4th gear. 3,200 @ 60mph. If you run bigger cam you will need more compression to make it work. Iove my little motor. Lopes and sputters down low( sounds cool to me). Has the feel of a big badd a$$ race engine with power to smoke the tires too. (n/t) (Ohio Tom) (29-Aug-2000 00:26:40)

I'll probably just go with what I got, but thanks for all the help. I might try a set of 1.25 rockers later on and switch to a merged header next summer. A BIG thanks to John at aircooled.net for putting up with my questions and to Jim at StrictlyGerman for helping with the heads and carbs! I would recommend either to anybody looking for help with aircooled parts. Thanks Doug for your input. I was looking at E.T times for the new cars that they have posted in the back of Car and Driver, Low 16's will still smoke most four cylinders and a lot of V-6's. I might get another bug that I don't have to drive everyday and build it a little hotter. Of course I still got my Fiberglass buggy ........ (n/t) (29-Aug-2000 12:00:11)

This is really special. A thank you with both Jim and John! (n/t) (Steve Arndt) (29-Aug-2000 12:12:09)

hey you guys, where do you find 1/4m times of new cars... i found a site of 1/4m times for different cars, but i am looking for another one, as this one isn't really updated with newer and european cars.... thanx! do not reply here, mail me (n/t) (fastfred) (30-Aug-2000 10:55:05)

Yea I know, a friend of mine has a honda prelude, according to C&D it should run 15.40. He added a K&N filter and took it to the track, it turned 15.8. Another thing is those times are with professional drivers and are corected for sea level, so unless you are running at sea level and are willing to dump the clutch on your new honda at 5000 rpm, you'll never get the times they publish. That's why I'm thinking a low 16 will dust most of the four bangers, like the Civic Si and the new MR2. (n/t) (James2) (30-Aug-2000 16:46:55)
