The Ford Mustang was initially based on the compact Falcon platform, but it created a new genre known as the "pony car", which still exists today. Ford souped up the early Mustangs with a 271 h.p. 289 c.i. V8 engine; later there were options for a 390 motor, and a Mustang GT500 with a Carroll Shelby-tuned 428 c.i. engine in it. The Chevrolet Chevelle model covered a wide range of General Motors vehicles, including the Malibu and the El Camino. The first Chevelle rolled off of the assembly lines in 1964, with a Malibu SS badge, but by 1966 it had evolved into the legendary Chevrolet Chevelle SS. The Chevrolet Nova muscle car line was first released to the public as the lowly Chevy II, but it quickly evolved into a compact sleeper when the V8 engine became an option in 1964. These are auctions for Chevrolet Camaro muscle cars. Many of these vehicles are classic cars from the 1960's-1970's, the heyday of the American muscle car era.
